The Graduate Chancellor's Research Grant is a transformative investment opportunity that directly advances the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's mission of research excellence, student success, and global academic prominence. This comprehensive program provides structured financial support to graduate students while delivering measurable returns through enhanced research output, improved graduation rates, and elevated university reputation.
Who’s Eligible?
Graduate and Professional students from the Graduate College of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who are enrolled at the time of application.
- Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and be in good academic standing.
- All travel must be completed before graduation.
- Students are eligible to receive up to one travel award per academic year. However, they may apply multiple times, provided they submit only one application per semester (e.g., Fall or Spring). Previous awardees will be considered secondary to first-time applicants.

GCRG Application
Travel Grant Application
The application for the Chancellor's Travel Grant can be accessed on NuRamp.
- Log in using your Canvas username and password.
- From among Open Internal Competitions, select "The Chancellor's Graduate Research Grant-Travel (Spring 2026)"
- Please answer the questions about your project or conference travel and upload a short essay.
- When you have finished your application, NUGrant will send a notification to your academic advisor. THEY must approve your application before it is considered. The Research Grant Team does NOT monitor this step, so it is up to you to ensure that your advisor has approved the application by the deadline below.
- Students can receive $800 for Domestic Travel (within the United States) and $1,000 for International Travel (outside the United States).
Research Activity Awards Application
The Research Activity Grant follows the same description and reimbursement procedures as the Travel Awards, with two key differences: this grant is not for conference travel. Instead, it provides funding for research projects that directly support the completion of a Master’s or PhD degree.
The application is available on a rolling basis until the funds are exhausted or the April 20th deadline is reached.
Examples of allowable expenses include:
- Compensation for research participants
- Purchase of eligible items or materials necessary to complete a research project
Each student may receive up to $300 to cover eligible expenses. Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and a list of allowable expenses will be provided once your application is accepted.

GCRG Deadlines
BOTH application deadlines are April 27th.
GCRG Reimbursement
Research funds cannot be distributed before conference travel or before you complete your research activities. Students who are awarded the Chancellor's Research Grant must submit detailed (itemized) travel-related receipts or purchase/payments for research activities.
An Employee Expense Voucher must be completed and submitted within thirty (30) calendar days from the last day of travel (Cost object: ASUN Graduate Travel Awards Program) to the ASUN Office, located in the Nebraska Union.
We will provide a detailed document outlining allowable and non-allowable expenses for the Graduate Research Grant, along with step-by-step instructions for reimbursement, once you have been awarded funding.
